Questions
Not universally. LetX provides unlimited collaborators on Free, and on paid plans Lexi, MCP access, and a lower listed individual price. Overleaf provides established institutional plans, integrations, procurement options, and optional on-premises deployment.
Student teams and labs that need unlimited collaborators on the free plan; Writers who want an agent that edits the real project and validates changes by compiling; AI-client workflows that need an OAuth-protected LaTeX MCP server, which Pro includes; Students, faculty, and staff who qualify for the listed $9 monthly or $90 yearly Academic Pro price.
Organizations that require Overleaf Server Pro, SSO, FedRAMP options, or established procurement; Researchers whose institutions already provide Overleaf premium access; Users who depend on Overleaf’s mature integration and template ecosystem; Teams that prefer Overleaf’s included AI allowance and established review workflow.
Buying for a group
The comparison above weighs the two products for an individual or a small team. An institutional decision turns on different things: subprocessors, data residency, whether a processing agreement can be signed, and how accounts get provisioned. Those are set out separately, including the requirements LetX does not currently meet.
